The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is an iconic project consisting of a series of bridges and tunnels crossing the Lingdingyang channel that will connect Zhuhai, a special economic zone in Guangdong Province to Hong Kong and Macau. The monitoring instruments will help keep the monitoring team updated of the status of the bridge, no matter if its Zhuhai, Guangdong, Hong Kong or Macau, this will drastically reduce the chances of danger or harm, causing casualties.
A Safe Bridge Requires Safety Checks Every Step Of The Way:
1) During the early stages of the design, it is required to understand the physics and pressure underwater. The Geomil Off-shore CPT Testing allows for a better understanding of offshore seabed soil conditions. While with the Geotomographie, we can map the cavaties and weak zones and to specify mechanical soil and rock properties.
2) Since Offshore Piling is a hard and expensive process, it is best to maximize accuracy and efficiency. PDI offers GRLWEAP software that mimics realisty piling, allowing accurate information of strength and angle of the pile for references. While during the piling process, PDI Pile Driving Analyzers can help monitor the process, allowing safe and efficient piling.
3) Since nature crisis would be the greatest threat to the security of the bridge, we have to make sure that the bridge is longlasting and free of problems. The monitoring process is broken down into two categories: Long-Term Monitoring and Daily Monitoring.
We provided Campbell CR6 Datalogger and CDM-VW305 for monitoring, the combination of the two allows a VSPECT Dynamic Vibrating Wire Sensors allowing accurate data and access for monitoring. While the Instantel Minimate was used to monitor the vibration of the bridge throughout all stages of construction.
When doing a daily monitoring, we have involved multiple monitoring equipments such as MIRA to monitor and image the thickness and look for air and gaps within the cement, Proceq GPR 3D Radar to monitor and see where the wires are located within the wall, Proceq Profometer Corrosion monitor to monitor corrosion, Giatec CELL also to monitor corrosion, Giatec iCOR also to monitor corrosion rate and to determine the durability of the concrete, NEC Infrared Camera to monitor temperature.
